Expertise:

Dr McMillan has a PhD in Polymer Chemistry from the University of Queensland.  Alison has over 25 years’ experience in the patent attorney profession that began with a leading patent attorney firm in Sydney.  In 1995 she returned to Queensland and became the first woman in Queensland to be registered as a patent attorney in Australia and New Zealand.

Alison is highly specialised in the prosecution of patent applications before the Australian and New Zealand Patent Offices.  Alison has also drafted, and prosecuted patent applications to grant before overseas patent offices including the USA and Europe.

Alison is highly experienced in patent opposition matters and has represented Australian and international applicants and opponents before the Australian Patent Office.  Alison has achieved a favourable outcome for every client that she has represented in a patent opposition matter.

Alison’s practice also includes designs law and she prepares and files design applications in Australia and overseas.  Practice and experience in both patent and design law enables Alison to provide clients with tailored and consolidated strategies for robust IP protection in Australia and internationally.

  • An Australian patent attorney registered to practice in both Australia and New Zealand 1996
