Originally hailing from the UK, Daniel joined the IP Gateway team in 2013.    He is a long-standing Fellow of the Australian Institute of Patent Attorneys and qualified as a British Chartered Patent Agent (Attorney) and a European Patent Attorney before migrating to Brisbane in 2001.

Daniel graduated in physics and worked for several years in publishing for the British Institute of Physics before making the move into IP.  He completed a Master of Science degree in the Management of Intellectual Property at the University of London and then practiced in the UK for several years with a well-known patent attorney firm, qualifying as a UK and European patent attorney.  Daniel then moved to, and re-qualified in, Australia and was awarded a Master of Intellectual Property degree from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).  Daniel worked with a top tier firm in Australia from 2001 until 2013.

His qualifications, experience and expertise in both European and Australian Patent Law provide Daniel with the depth and understanding required to provide his clients with insightful and timely advice, both in Australia and overseas.

With a strong service ethic and approach to patent work and IP strategy that is both meticulous and pragmatic, he has honed his skills over more than 20 years in IP to establish himself as a highly-respected IP specialist in this country.  Daniel has great enthusiasm for patent protection, especially in the mechanical field, and with his physics background has a deep understanding for technical subject matter in engineering and high-technology industries.  He also has considerable expertise in design protection.

Daniel has a genuine passion for supporting innovators commercialising their work and inventions to provide benefits to the general public.  He strives to develop cost-effective and commercially valuable outcomes from the IP system.  His nurturing approach to individuals and small companies has seen him help first-time users of the patent system build valuable IP portfolios.  He also takes pride in finding creative IP solutions, such as finding ways to provide patent protection for innovations which might initially appear impossible to protect effectively.

It’s his critical attention to detail and the ability to help solve complex intellectual property issues that makes Daniel an invaluable part of the IP Gateway team.
