Timothy Fitzgerald PhD

Tim is a life sciences specialist, with substantial experience in drafting and prosecution of highly complex technical specifications. Tim has benefited from diverse technical training, obtaining undergraduate qualifications in medical science before undertaking a PhD and postdoctoral research in crop science. With strong expertise in genomics and molecular biology, Tim is particularly adept at assisting with securing protection for innovation in these areas, whether applied to humans, animals, or plants.

Before joining the IP profession, Tim spent ten years as a research scientist, undertaking Honours and a PhD in plant molecular biology, then working for The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). From his time as a researcher, Tim has published more than twenty peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and is a named inventor himself on patents. Tim’s primary expertise is in biotechnology, and he has assisted with drafting and prosecution of numerous biotechnology patents, including for large university and corporate clients, and biotech start-ups. During his career as an attorney, Tim has also gained substantial experience with patent protection of mechanical technologies and ICT, and has provided considerable assistance with trade mark and design matters. With an intimate understanding of the intellectual investment and the dedication required to develop new innovation, in the life sciences as well as in other technology areas, Tim is committed to helping clients get the most from their IP.
