Team Profile

Expertise

Originally hailing from the U.K., Daniel graduated in physics and worked in publishing for the British Institute of Physics before making the move into IP.  He completed a Master of Science degree in the Management of Intellectual Property at the University of London in 1993 and then practiced in the UK for several years, qualifying as a UK and European patent attorney.

He migrated to Brisbane in 2001, was awarded a Master of Intellectual Property degree from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), and re-qualified as an Australian Patent Attorney.  He is a long-standing Fellow of the Australian Institute of Patent Attorneys.

Daniel worked for one of Australia’s largest IP firms from 2001 until 2013, and has worked for or with IP Gateway for a vast majority of the time since then.

With more than 25 years in patent practice, Daniel has considerable experience of patent drafting, prosecution and opinion work, including acting on substantial opposition matters.  Daniel has genuine enthusiasm for patent protection, especially in the mechanical field, and his physics background provides a deep understanding for technical subject matter in engineering and physics-based industries.

He also has considerable expertise in design protection, being a member of IPTA’s Designs Legislation and Practice Committee, and a contributor to the Wolters Kluwer book Design Rights: Functionality and Scope of Protection (2nd Edition).

His critical attention to detail and the ability to help solve complex intellectual property issues makes Daniel an invaluable part of the IP Gateway team.
